How to compress files and check the results
Reduce supported file sizes while keeping your originals.
1. Keep your originals
Start with copies of your files and choose a separate output location. Keep a backup of important documents.
2. Select supported files
Open File Compressor and add the PDFs, images or supported Office files you want to process. Check the options available for each file type in your installed version.
3. Choose settings for the task
Start with moderate compression. For images and documents, a smaller file can mean reduced image quality. Use a small sample before processing a large batch.
4. Run a small batch
Choose the destination and start compression. Wait for processing to finish before opening the output files.
5. Compare the output
Compare file sizes, then open each sample in its usual application. Inspect text, images, page layout and any important document content. Some files are already compressed and may shrink very little.
6. Keep the version that works
Use the compressed copy only after checking it. If quality is insufficient, use gentler settings or keep the original.
